Romania's Supreme Defense Council (CSAT) decided on Tuesday to rise the terrorism alert level from cautious to moderate prior to the NATO Summit due to take place in Bucharest in early April, a presidential press release says. The decision was made at the request of the head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).

The measure is an ordinary one in countries hosting a NATO summit but might be justified by the possible existence of intelligence related to recent events that would show a risk of terrorist attacks during the NATO Summit in Bucharest.

The CSAT session was assisted by President Traian Basescu and Bucharest Mayor Adriean Videanu, according to Romanian news agency NewsIn. It also reviewed the risks and threats in areas around the globe where Romania has deployed troops.
