Romanian President Traian Basescu criticized the military procurement program of the Defense Ministry and argued that the main problem of the Romanian military system was the lack of necessary equipments. PM Tariceanu also criticized the way the Ministry understood to manage the procurement programs. Defence Minister Teodor Melescanu argued that the programs are on schedule and under control.

PM Tariceanu referred to the recent plan of the Ministry to acquire 48 new defensive airplanes and argued that Romania cannot afford such an acquisition. He urged Melescanu to analyze the situation and redistribute the Ministry budget if necessary since more than 60% is spent on personnel.

On his turn, Romanian President Traian Basescu declared that nobody had the right to postpone issues related to national security. Thus, he argued that the Ministry should buy all necessary equipments.
