Romania's anti-graft prosecutors have launched a criminal inquiry on Democrat-Liberal (PD-L) deputy Cristian Boureanu for charges related to abuse in office over his involvement in the shareholders board of the Romanian Lottery. Boureanu said in a TV show that he received a subpoena from the National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) without prior notice. He told HotNews.ro on Thursday that he suspected the involvement of a businessman related to the governing Liberals (PNL) in the case.

He said he suspected businessman Relu Fenechiu's involvement because the signatory of the subpoena wa a prosecutor who in the 2004 elections was supported by Fenechiu as the candidate of the PNL party to the Iasi city hall.

The inquiry started on April 17. Boureanu, whose PD-L party is close to President Traian Basescu, the Liberal government's arch-rival, said he would show up at the DNA on May 6.
