Two hours before the most awaited match ending the Romanian football championship, Universitatea Cluj fans gathered dowtown Cluj, Central Romania to leave together for the stadium. However, they clashed with police forces when they found out that they will be escorted to the stadium on secondary streets. U Cluj was due to face CFR Cluj on Tuesday in the latter's attempt to secure the championship title.

Since both football teams to confront are from Cluj, police forces feared that fights will start on the streets, before and after the game finishes. However, apart from the fervent cries for their favorite teams, the two camps did not interact violently until the beginning of the match.
