Agence France Presse reads about Romanian doctors who would rather leave the country to work abroad than earn the low salaries offered in Romania. The phenomenon threatens to affect even more the Romanian health system which is already in bad shape, the French news agency reads, quoted by the Romanian news agency Mediafax.

According to a 2007 survey conducted by the European Medical Solidarity, 45% of the doctors and nurses in Romania consider leaving the country. Their main reason is the low salary pack received in the country. For example, a specialist earns, after six years of general studies and another seven years of specialization some 220 euro.

According to the French Doctor's College, by May 2008 the number of Romanian doctors working in France had grown by 320% for the last ten months. On the other hand, Romania's Health ministry does not officially admit the current lack of doctors at the national level but of an insufficient occupancy in hospitals.

However, the study shows that the Medical European Solidarity survey reveals that doctors in Romania will be tempted to stay in the country if they would earn between 500 to 1000 euro/month.
