The 26 Foreign Affairs ministers meet on Tuesday at the NATO Summit in Brussels to re-affirm their support for Georgia in its unfolding conflict with Russia, even if this would meet to jeopardize their relations with Russia, Agence France Presse informs.

Summoned at Washington's request, the extraordinary reunion started at 10 am Romania's local time and will end late in the afternoon. The Summit takes place as Russia's troop delay their retreat from Georgian territory.

US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice declared that she wants all NATO countries to re-affirm their support for Georgia and their commitment to allow both Georgia and Ukraine to enter the Alliance.

This move will thus hamper Russia's expansion strategies and will hinder its influence in the region. Rice underlined that she will not push for an urgent integration of Georgia but that Georgia's status will be re-examined.
