Romanian President Basescu took a stand about Romania's poor performance at the Beijing Olympic Games on Wednesday, saying that Romanian athletes should be represented in the Government and a ministry should be set up to coordinate all policies related to them. Basescu congratulated the performance of the athletes and offered them the prizes they deserve.
The President declared that a Ministry in charge with sports policies was a necessity to increase the athletes' performances. He underlined that Romania's athletes were not fully supported by the government which hindered their status and thus training.
