Romanian President Traian Basescu declared on Monday that both the education and health sector represent his biggest priorities of his term and underlined that he would approve a salary increase in the health sector as well, contrary to the system reform.

The president met the members of the Presidential committee in order to analyze and draft a health policy suitable for the Romanian environment. The committee was set up last year, with a clear goal to analyze and propose improvement methods. The Commission is lead by the former National Insurance Agency chief, Cristian Vladulescu.

The president declared that the budget was not properly used and emphasized that Romania's economy would not be destroyed, contrary to the governments' claim that it would should teachers receive a 50% salary increase.
