Professors all over the country, members of the Spiru Haret federation entered on Monday, 7 am in a warning strike, in the same day that pupils return to school, after a week of holiday. The protest will be held all day and teachers will not teach today. Union members urge the government to implement the 50% teachers' increase law as soon as possible.
Some 70,000 professors are members of the Spiru Haret federation. In a week, all other unions announced similar actions and on November 18, a general strike is scheduled. Economy minister, Varujan Vosganian declared that he is currently negotiating with union representatives but he will not agree to their initial demand.
The minister declared that he proposed a gradual 60% salary increase in 4 years time. On Monday, a new negotiation meeting is scheduled between the government and the big union federations.
