Romania registered the most advanced pace of growth in Europe, PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu declared in an electoral speech. Tariceanu declared that a 50% salary increase supported by the Parliament was a purely electoral promise, that is intended to gain electoral capital. If the measure is implemented, he added, salaries will weight more as paper than as a value.

Tariceanu promised that salaries and pension schemes will continue to grow, but in a slower, natural pace. Moreover, he added that as head of the government, he was compelled to take sound decisions that would encourage Romania's economic development rather than hinder it.
