Several important NGOs express their indignation about aCentral Electoral Office decision that confines the access of NGO election observers in the upcoming legislative elections on November 30. The three most important NGOs in Romania protest against Decision 47/D/6.11.2008 that limits the access of accredited journalists and election observers to certain areas of voting sections.

According to the decision, accredited journalists and election observers can only stay in designated places within the constituency. The decision reads that the presence of the observers must not interfere with the conduct of the electoral process.

The three NGOs claim that the decision is ungrounded because it creates favorable conditions for electoral frauds. They urge officials to take immediate action as the new decision affects the activity of the independent observers and journalists.

Thus, they underline that the presence of independent observers and journalists is a democratic guarantee of the free and fair elections principle.
