Journalist Cristian Oprea won, at the first hearing, the process in which he was sued by President Traian Basescu. President Basescu accused Oprea of publishing, in the daily newspaper Cotidianul, information that was not accurate. Oprea's lawyer, Doru Costea declared for HotNews.ro that the decision represents a victory for the press.

The decision of the first hearing is not definitive and incontestable. The decision, according to Doru Oprea was expected, since the journalist respected all norms regulating his profession. The presidency informed through a formal press release, the main reasons for which Oprea was sued. It argued that the journalist was warned several times that his articles do not convey the reality but it was in vein.
