Romania's Prosecutor General Codruta Kovesi has declared that, when she took up the job in 2006, she believed that she could actually change the system but she found herself caught in the web of procedures. She added, in an interview for the Romanian news agency Mediafax, that she failed cleaning the system of prosecutors that should not be in the system.

Kovesi declared that EU requirements needed to be accomplished so that the monitoring process of the judicial system in Romania be lifted were not too hard to meet and said that institutions have to collaborate in order to achieve some results. Moreover, she said that in several cases journalists press the judicial system even more than the prosecutor general does.
