President Traian Basescu is scheduled to meet on Monday with Education union representatives, together with Education minister Ecaterina Andronescu. The main issue on the agenda is the salary increase of professors.
Recently, Education ministry Ecaterina Andronescu declared that the institution she leads seeks solutions to increase salaries in the system by 33% starting January 2010 and this year salaries will increase by 9%. She declared that, after the budgetary modifications, some 5% are lost, which should have covered another salary increase this year.
Nonetheless, she declared that benefits will be maintained and there will be no lay offs. However, professors reject this proposal and threaten with protests.
