Romania's President Traian Basescu explained on Monday the main reasons for which he did not refer to the situation in the Republic of Moldova. "I had a lot of patience to receive a full analysis, plus I was sure that this is what he wanted me to do", Basescu said. He added that Romania will not give him the opportunity to raise an iron curtain over the Prut river separating the two countries.

Romania will adopt a European, responsible stand in what concerns Moldova for the four million Romanians living in the Republic of Moldova, citizens of that country also but also part of the Romanian people, Basescu declared.

Republic of Moldova President Vladimir Voronin declared last week that Romania is involved in all the country's events. Moreover, Voronin said that Romania's influence is serious and its secret services are deeply involved in organizing protests against the Moldovan government.
