The ActiveWach-Media Monitoring Agency NGO issued a protest on Wednesday, accusing the Constanta mayor of censorship. The protest, sent to the leaders of the two governing parties, Social Democrat Mircea Geoana and Democrat Liberal Emil Boc, shows that Radu Mazare blocked the distribution of a local newspaper, Ziua de Constanta, which published a series of articles criticizing the official.
According to the MMA document, Radu Mazare, who is also a shareholder at the newspapers distribution company Conpress, is not at his first censorship attempt. "During the time when the Social Democrats were governing, the Constanta edition of Jurnalul National, Evenimentul Zilei and Academia Catavencu were also victims of abuse, censorship and intimidation", the release reads, adding that Ziua de Constanta recently accused Radu Mazare of manipulating judges in order to obtain, in 2008, the conviction of a journalist that criticized him.
