Some 2,000 citizenship requests in only two days were submitted by Moldovan citizens to regain Romanian citizenship, PRO TV Chisinau reads, quoted by Mediafax. Most people declared that they decided to re-apply after Romania simplified its requirements.
Romania's government simplified last week its citizenship requirements for Moldovan citizens. The maximum deadline for checking the file was reduced from six to five months. Moreover, the right to request citizenship was extended for third line relatives compared to second line relatives before. Moldovan citizens can receive their visa even faster if they submit all necessary documents to the Justice ministry in Bucharest.
Romania's President Traian Basescu declared that until now some 800,000 citizens submitted requests to regain Romanian citizenship.
