Romanian tennis player Sorana Carstea took no. 27 in the world women’s hierarchy (WTA) after qualifying for the quarter-final in Roland Garros. This is the best rank the 19 year-old player managed to achieve so far.

Sorana advanced 14 positions, raising 1,796 points. The last hierarchy saw her on the 41st position. In 2008, she managed to reach no. 36.

Carstea was eliminated in Rolland Garros by Australian player Samantha Stosur. For qualifying in the quarter-final, she received 132,000 euros.

Monica Niculescu is now the 63rd, going down five positions, with 980 points, while Alexandra Dulgheru is ranked 86th, with 771 points, down three positions.

In the men’s competition, Victor Hanescu went two positions up in the world hierarchy: he’s now occupying the 31st position, having raised 1,651 points. His previous best result had been no. 33, achieved in 2009. Victor Crivoi went 11 positions up, and he’s presently no. 88, with 820 points.
