Romania's President Traian Basescu declared, on Friday night, at Sinaia, a mountainous resort, thaat Romania does not have a discrimination policy against the Rroma community, Romanian television news channel Realitatea TV informs, quoted by a local news agency NewsIn. The President made the remark after he was summoned to comment Madonna's speech on Thursday, when she underlined, during her performance, that gypsies in Eastern Europe are discriminated.

The President acknowledged that there are some problems with the Rroma community but denied that there is a policy aimed at discriminating the Rroma community. Present at the Romani Kultura Festival, Basescu met Rroma representatives and encouraged them to send their children to schools and integrate them in the society.

The festival was organized by the National Culture Center of the Rroma community, Romano Kher together with the local city hall. In the weekend, people were able to admire traditional costumes, gypsy dancers, various concerts and movies on the theme or photo exhibitions and paintings.

Romania's Culture ministry allocated some 20,000 euro for the event.
