Gigi Becali, Romanian businessman-politician who now serves as member of the European Parliament, has been sent to court over charges of illegally retaining people in a case for which he spent two weeks in arrest this spring, according to Romanian news agency NewsIn.

Other six people have been sent to court together with Becali, best known as the money man behind Romanian football club Steaua.

The case involves the suspected abusive retention of a group of men for stealing his Mecedes car earlier this year. When he was released from preventive arrest on April 16, he was applied several restrictions.
