87.43% of Romanians who cast their vote in the referendum which took place simultaneously with the presidential elections on Sunday opted for a lower number of MPs, while 77.4% voted for a single-chamber Parliament, according to exit poll data available by 7 p.m. which were provided by CURS, quoted by TVR International.

Confirmation was yet to come at 9.45 p.m. on Sunday whether the referendum was valid, considering that 50% plus one of the total number of 18 million Romanians with the right to vote had to cast their ballot in the referendum. Incumbent President Traian Basescu said in his speech on Sunday night that the referendum was validated, but no official confirmation was available at the time.
