Final results for Romania's overseas polls: Trian Basescu leads, followed by Antonescu and Basescu

Traian Basescu got the biggest number of votes from the Romanians overseas: 52,904. Crin Antonescu ranked 2nd, with 16,449, while Mircea Geoana came third, with 11,717 votes, a Romanian Foreign Affairs ministry indicates.

The votes from all the 294 voting sections overseas have been centralised. Here are the results:

  • 95,068 Romanians voted;
  • the number of valid votes is 94,383;
  • there have been 675 invalid votes.

The number of valid votes expressed for each candidate running for Romania's presidency in 2009:

1.    Crin Antonescu -16,449

2.    Mircea Geoana – 11,717

3.    Hunor Kelemen -999

4.    Traian Basescu – 52,904

5.    Sorin Oprescu -3,190

6.    George Becali – 2,285

7.    Ovidiu-Cristian Iane - 231

8.    Gheorghe-Eduard Manole - 367

9.    Corneliu Vadim-Tudor – 5,080

10.  Remus-Florinel Cernea- 949

11.  Constantin-Ninel Potirca - 110

12.  Constantin Rotaru - 102


The number of valid votes expressed in the 2009 national referendum regarding switching to a single-chamber Parliament:


No. of valid votes reading YES .......... 72,555

No. of valid votes reading NO ........... 16,428


The number of valid votes expressed in the 2009 national referendum regarding the reduction of MPs to a maximum of 300 persons:


No. of valid votes reading YES .......... 83,336

No. of valid votes reading NO ........... 6,077
