Princess Lia, wife of Prince Paul of Romania, gave birth to a 2.2 kg baby boy at the Regina Maria (Queen Mary) maternity in Bucharest. The new mum is 56 and doctors assisting her with the pregnancy said the birth unfold naturally. Both she and her baby are healthy.

Dr. Bogdanka Militescu, Unirea Medical centre manager, told HotNews.ro that the birth took place without complications. "It was a grade10 birth, according to how we used to grade births. She will be released the moment the obstetrician decides they are ready".

The princess wished to have her baby born in Romania and said she will baptise her son with the Orthodox church. "Both me and my wife were longing for a child for quite some time", Prince Paul declared in a press communiqué. He said that he and Princess Lia are happy to share such a happy moment with the Romanians. Their son will be named Carol Ferdinand of Romania.

"It is also a moment of fulfilment because our son was born in Romania, as we have wished. The birth of my son is one more reason to restate my honorary duty towards our ancestors and for the generations to come, for him to know better and to understand the history of the Romanian people, which we love so much", Prince Paul declares.

Paul-Phillippe Hohenzoller, now 61, was born in Paris. He's the son of Mircea Grigore Carol Lambrino, known as Mircea Grigore Carol Hohenzollern, Carol of Romania's illegitimate son.

Prince Paul and Princess Lia met in London, during a UNICEF gala. The princess is a children rights supporter.
