Reader's Digest named Romanian Iana Matei, President of the organization Reaching Out, the 2010 European citizen. The magazine reads that it wants to uphold organizations that counter human trafficking and women' exploitation.

Matei declared that she is honored to accept the prize. Aged 50, Iana Matei dedicates her life to save children that fall prey to human trafficking. For her continuous fight against a form of modern slavery, the 19 European editors of the Reader's Digest nominated Iana Matei for the prize.

In her 11 years of activity, Iana Matei, saved and offered a normal life to about 420 victims. Mostly are young women and after a period of adjustment within the organization, they are reintegrated in society.

Iana Matei talked in front of the US government about the situation in Romania, she cooperated with agencies like the UN Drugs and Organized Crime Office and was one of the experts that counseled NATO on such issues.
