The Superior Council of Magistracy decided on Thursday, with a majority of votes, to propose Livia Doina Stanciu as President of the Supreme Court, Agerpres informs. Stanciu was President of the Penal Section within the Supreme Court.

She was part of the team of judges to condemn Ramnicu Valcea mayor, Mircia Gutau for 3 years and a half for corruption.

After the announcement of the decision, Stanciu declared that she aims to maintain the judicial system to its highest standards. She said that if the mandate will be validated, she plans to obtain a new headquarters for the institution.

According to the law, the President of the Supreme Court are named by the Romanian President, at the proposal of the Superior Council of Magistracy among the judges within the Supreme Court.
