Education unions stand by their decision to organize a one day general strike on Thursday, on April 22, after they reconsidered the problems in the system, namely insufficient money for personnel spending, the lay off ordinance and the education law, Romanian news agency Mediafax informs.

Union representatives met on Wednesday to re-analyze the situation in the Romanian educational system and the problems teachers and professors face, a press release reads. Unions are dissatisfied that the personnel money are not enough for 2010. Another dissatisfaction is that starting September 15,000 people were laid off from the pre-university system, after in 2009 another 18,000 people were laid off.
