Romanian national railways company (CFR) threatens to block all trains if state companies are also subjected to the unpopular measures to cut 25% of the salaries, Engine Mechanics' Federation president Iulian Mantescu declared, quoted by Mediafax.

"What is happening is unacceptable. We will not put up with another salary cut. We're waiting for an emergency ordinance to see exactly where the many spared by this measure will go: whether they will stay with our societies for investments or if they go to the Solidarity Fund, as the MP calls it. We will block trains if necessary", Mantescu said.

The union leader stressed that CFR staff's incomes have already been cut this year by 26% against the 2009 remuneration. 10,000 people working mainly for CFR Marfa are to be sacked by the end of 2010.

Mantescu announced that the CFR unions will take part in the protests announced by the five union confederations.
