PNL has firmly asserted to be against the "Basescu-Boc plan" addressing the cut of salaries and pensions and proposes other measures to keep the IMF agreement going and reduce maintain the deficit: to cut spending "in the areas where there's a waste". According to liberal leader Crin Antonescu, PNL is in favour of cutting 50% of the public spending for acquisitions, feasibility studies, travel, fuel and telecoms.

Crin Antonescu explained that these were the proposals coming the liberals were taking part in today's Economic Social Council.

The liberal leader claims that the Government's plan to reduce salaries and pensions could affect "9 million Romanians". It is not a "stimulus plan, but an absurd measure to reduce salaries and pensions" and to eliminate benefits and subventions.
