Iulia Antoanella Motoc, sustained by the Democrat Liberals is the new judge of the Constitutional Court proposed by the Senate. Motoc received, on Monday afternoon, 71 votes in the Senate. Her countercandidate, Teodor Melescanu, the Liberal's proposal obtained 56 votes.

Iulia Antoanella Motoc is Phd. in ethics and international law, lawyer, member of the Bucharest Law Bar and professor at the Bucharest University. Motoc started her carreer as prosecutor in 1989 and during 1990 to 1995 she was a judge at the Bucharest district 2.

My main priority is to modernize the Constitutional Court to integrate Romania's Constitutional Court in Europe's league, Iulia Motoc declared.

If the Senate managed to nominate and vote a judge for the Constitutional Court, the Chamber of Deputies utterly failed to. Deputies should have cast a vote by 4pm but because they fought each other, the meeting did not start.

The meeting was blocked at 7PM after opposition judges surrounded the microphone. Three mandates of Constitutional Court judges expired last week, but the procedure to nominate new judges was delayed without reason.

Only the Presidential administration designated a new judge, Petre Lazaroiu, who sweared in last week. For the other two mandates, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies were supposed to nominate someone. However, the procedure is blocked due to political games.
