Climatic changes and changes to the proprietary regime of forests are the main causes of devastating floods affecting Romania this days, ex-Romanian President Ion Iliescu, who in his youth studied hydro-energy, said on Romanian news channel Realitatea TV on Thursday.

Iliescu, who over the past several year said he was a supporter of climate change arguments, said "man intervened against nature in a brutal manner and now pays the price"

He said another cause for the floods is the extreme deforestation affecting Romania after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989.
