Romania is dissatisfied with the lack of transparency at the level of the European diplomatic service, Romanian Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi said. He added that he spoke with the Higher Representative for foreign policies, Catherine Ashton about the necessity of the diplomatic service to respect the rule that one third of the personnel needs to come from national diplomacies.

We are not the only state to express its dissatisfaction, Baconschi said. He added that Romania is well aware that states with higher influence occupy the most relevant positions but the diplomatic service needs to comply with treaty rules.

The European foreign affairs corpse is currently being set up and it will take about two to three years to be able to function properly. Baconschi said that Romania targets at least one director position in the EU diplomatic corpse.
