We understand France's position but in the same time we uphold without reserves the right of any Romanian citizen to move freely within the EU, Romanian President Traian Basescu declared on Thursday. He reminded the press that there were similar problems in Italy and were resolved by detaching Romanian police offices in Italy and he underlined that there is also a EU responsibility, to integrate the Rroma community.

- I want to remind you that we had the same problems with Italy which we solved by detaching Romanian police officers to collaborate with the local police
- The same solution needs to be implemented in France as well and we will collaborate with France to find a soluton
- We understand the problems the illegal camps are causing
- Romania urged the EC to implement a program to integrate the Rroma community in the EU
- We should not confuse assimilation with integration
