The exception of unconstitutionality procedure applied in a case would no longer interrupt or delay the trial, as it used to happen in high profile corruption cases or any other major case. A draft law changing the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court was passed by the Romanian Senate on Tuesday and is due to be approved.

The bill was passed with 69 votes in favor. In May 2009, a similar bill was rejected with 68 votes in favor - one less than the necessary number.

The draft law approved by the Senate on Tuesday removes a provision from Law 47/1992 regarding the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court, saying that when a solution is sought for exceptions of unconstitutionality judging in a trial is suspended for the period.
