The European Parliament adopted, on Thursday, a resolution urging France and other EU states to immediately suspnd the expulsion of gypsies. The resolution presented by Socialists, Liberals, Greens and Communists obtained 337 votes for, 245 against and 51 abstains.

The Parliament underlines that the mass expulsions breach EU legislation because they are discriminatory. Deputies urge politicians to give up their rhetorics and also criticize the Council and the Commission's lack of involvement in this matter.

The press release reads that the issue has and cannot affect Romania and Bulgaria's intention to join Schengen. The European Union and all its member states have a common responsibility to promote the integration of the Rroma community.
