Romania managed to open up to the European gas market, more specifically to the Vienna stock exchange. Romanian and Hungarian authorities opened, with a 10 month delay, the Arad Szeged gas pipe. The opening ceremony was held at Csanadpalota, Hungary. So far, the only supply with natural gas was from Russia. For now, Romania will only be able to import natural gas through the new pipe because technically, it cannot export yet.

PM Emil Boc, his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban and European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger attended the opening. The pipeline should have been functioning on January 1, 2010 but things were not made on time and it was postponed for July 29, 2010.

After a second delay, the pipeline is finally up and running. This is the most advanced inter-connecting project to other pipelines in other states. Another pipe, Giurgiu Ruse could be finished by the end of next year.
