France's President Nicolas Sarkozy rejected on Saturday claims that he refused to talk to his Romanian counterpart, after the NATO's Summit photo session. Sarkozy declared that after the group photo, all leaders attended dinners and reunions where he had a chance to talk many times with Basescu. He added that he appreciates him a lot, Romanian news agency Mediafax reads.

Sarkozy underlined that Romania needs to respect EU rules and regulations and that the mechanism to monitor justice reforms was not initiated by Paris. President Basescu had a short exchange of lines with his French counterpart after the group photo at NATO's Summit, at Lisbon.

The moment was shot by TV cameras but without any sounds so images portray President Basescu addressing the French President. Sarkozy responds shortly and leaves.
