President Traian Basescu said that the way courts function, by creating law instead of apply it, decredibilizes Romania and contributes to higher interest rates offered to the state. Basescu said he was questioned by foreign partners with whom he needs to negotiate the 25% salary cut, whether he needs to address also the Constitutional Court or judges.

Basescu said the government is decredibilized through actions that have nothing to do with the implementation of the law or the Constitution. Such realities are paid by Romania as it hits walls or higher interest rates.

Basescu pleaded for a minimum of responsibility, from citizens to judges. He underlined that people need to understand that the recovery from the crisis is a problem of all Romanians, of the political class alike.
