There is no reason to postpone Romania’s adhesion to Schengen, Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi declared. He said that currently, the Hungarian Presidency of the EU supports the expansion of Schengen. His statements follow the news that Hungarian Interior minister Sandor Pinter declared, quoted by the German dpa news agency, that Romania and Bulgaria’s adhesion to Schengen was postponed.

Baconschi said that he urged the Romanian Embassy to Hungary the exact transcript of the statements made by Pinter, saying that the information was not officially confirmed. Baconschi said that on January 14, the evaluation work group for Schengen, SCH-EVAL will present the last evaluation report.
