Romania’s Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi declared that the Schengen space is full of vulnerabilities, mentioning that the EU south border is breached by North African illegal immigrants from the Middle East.

It is in the interest of the 27 to improve the system through cooperation, share of experience and use the IT Schengen system which was created for this purpose, Romania’s Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi said. He underlined that the effort is collective and countries need to improve the system continuously.

He said that Romania can secure its borders and the EU ones but if there are second thoughts on this, Romania is ready to receive international experts to verify the situation, Romanian news agency Agerpres reads. On the other hand the minister took the opportunity to underline that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism on justice should not be linked with Schengen. Romania demands that Schengen be independent of other considerations, the official said.
