Romanian authorities will present, next week, on February 23rd to the European Commission the model proposed to use 84 million euro of EU funds to develop an internet broadband solutin in poor areas of the country, Communications Ministry officials declared for Hotnews.ro. EC blocked the allocation of the funds to Romania, initially targetd for areas that do not have internet broadband coverage after Romanian authorities tried to direct the money to eRomania online portal, an information exclusively presented last month by HotNews.ro.

We are still discussing the optimal solution to use the 84 million euro. Next week, we will discuss our solution to use the money, Communications officials declared. The European Executive decided to block the EU funds after in June last year, Communications ministry under the leadership of Gabriel Sandu announced their plans to transfer the money to the online e-government project eRomania.

On December 13th, Brussels officials sent an official letter urging Romanian authorities to set up a team to discuss with EU officials about the implementation model of the funds.
