After a meeting with President Basescu, Democratic Liberals show signs that they are ready to accept an independent Prime Minister. HotNews.ro sources claim that on Tuesday night, at a meeting with Basescu local party organization leaders voted in favor of an independent Prime Minister for the beginning of March. The first vote was cast on Sunday, February 13 but they changed their minds manifesting their support for incumbent PM Emil Boc. The situation seems to have twisted again. Several Democratic Liberal leaders declared for HotNews.ro, anonymously, that for the sake of the party, PM Boc must step down.

PDL sources declared for HotNews.ro that, at a meeting on Tuesday night, local party organization leaders voted again in favor of an independent leader with 40 votes for and 7 against. A similar vote was given on Sunday night but leaders of the local party organizations changed their minds on Monday, favoring incumbent Boc.

On Tuesday night, President Basescu told PDL that the situation of the PM needs to be clarified by March before the National Coordination Council of the party. Sources claim that until then, local party leaders need to prepare the people for the new change.

The Council was postponed by March 5th, initially scheduled for January 19th and PDL members were asked by PM Boc and President Basescu not to offer any details regarding negotiations at meetings to the press. Even though they do not want to make public statements, PDL leaders seem to have changed their minds and opt for Basescu’s option.

HotNews.ro sources claim that if Boc steps down, he will be supported for the highest position in the party. Negotiations are just beginning and we can have new candidates for the Prime Minister position, sources said.
