The Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament confirmed, on Tuesday, the exclusion of Romanian MEP Adrian Severin suspected of corruption acts. The group also demand his resignation from the European institution, a press release reads.

Irrespective of the result of the investigation in the EP or anywhere else, Severin knows what moral responsibility means as he held various important positions in his country and I hope he will leave the EP so that the institution’s image will not be affected in the future, leader of the group Martin Schultz declared.

British Daily The Sunday Times released an article according to which three MEPs including Romanian MEP Adrian Severin were willing to sell their services in exchange of up to 100,000 euro to some journalists pretending to be lobbyists. The EP decided to launch an investigation following the information in the press while anti graft prosecutors in Romania said they will also look into it.
