Of the 5 candidates representing the civil society in the Superior Council of Magistracy, validated in the Senate, only one will represent the civil society in the Superior Council of Magistracy. The Senate’s judicial committee approved on Tuesday, by unanimous vote, five of the six candidates proposed by the civil society to represent them after Victor Alistar was invalidated.

The five candidates are Georgiana Iorgulescu proposed by the Magistrates’ Association in Romania, Judicial Resources Center and Pro Democratia Association; Radu Cornel Andreica proposed by the Human Rights Defense Leaguel Doinel Dinuica, Spiru Haret University; Virgil Melnic, Traffic Accidents’ Victims Association; Ovidiu Horea Maican, Freedom House. According to the law, the Senate will choose one of the five candidates that meet the legal requirements.

One of the two positions representing the Civil Society was vacated in January when the court declared the naming of Victor Alistar as unconstitutional.
