Romanian businessman George Brailoiu, who purchased in an auction in France last week manuscripts pertaining to Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran announced on Tuesday that he donated them to the Romanian Academy Library. I considered that the Romanian Academy, which has the duty to maintain and cultivate the Romanian language and literature is the institution most suitable to keep Cioran’s manuscripts I bought, Brailoiu said in a press conference organized at the Romanian Academy.

According to him, his gesture is symbolic, “in a time we need such symbols” he explained. Brailoiu will be awarded by the Romanian Academy for recovering the manuscripts and deciding to offer them to the Romanian state.
