Former Siret customs chief Aurel Anea and another 44 former employees indicted in the Siret customs corruption case were released, Romanian news agency Mediafax reports. However, they are not allowed to leave the country. The Higher Court of Justice ruled on Tuesday the recourses in the files of 45 men indicted in the Siret customs corruption case.

Overall, there were 62 customs police officers and 4 customs officers indicted in the case. According to anti graft prosecutors, since September 2010 to January 2011, 62 customs police officers at Siret claimed, received or accepted, directly or not a total sum of 3,643,513 lei and other goods from persons transiting the customs to favor their illegal trading of goods mostly from Ukraine.
