Over 120 customs police officers, customs officers are raiding on Thursday the Port of Constanta Sud Agigea checking the merchandise containers to establish whether there is smuggling or fiscal evasion, sources in the police said quoted by news agency Mediafax.

Quoted sources said that they are checking the terminal of containers in the port, following some intelligence from the Interior Ministry’s intelligence service. The action is targeted to counter illegal activities in the Port of Constanta. Customs Police spokesperson Fabian Badila said that the action is under the coordination of the Interior ministry and said that it will continue next week also as authorities are checking all goods in the merchandise containers arriving in the port and their documents to counter fiscal evasion.

He said that the action launched on Thursday is not connected to the actions on Monday when 29 people received temporary arrest warrants including former Interior Ministry secretary general Laurentiu Mironescu, presumed to be involved in fiscal evasion and merchandise smuggling. The action takes place just four days since the raids made by investigators at the customs in Constanta which ended with 29 people being temporary arrest for setting up a criminal network, smuggling and fiscal evasion.
