Brussels promised on Tuesday to examine the ways through which it might help vegetable producers confronting with a major trust crisis regarding the safety of the products they cultivate, following an epidemic of E.coli bacteria causing several deaths and many other victims which was blamed on Spanish cucumbers, AFP informs.

After a meeting in Debrecen, Hungary with European ministers, Romanian EC Commissioner Dacian Ciolos promised to try all possibilities to help producers, admitting that they options are limited though. He did not say what the EC plans to do next. Spain demanded on Tuesday compensation from the EU for the fall of vegetable consumption in the last days. The situation is extremely serious for the vegetable and fruit sector in Spain that suffered losses worth more than 200 million euro.
