President Traian Basescu will attend, on Thursday and Friday the Sumer European Council meeting. The agenda includes subjects like the economic problematic, immigration, consolidating Schengen and the negotiations of Croatia to join the EU and the evolutions in the South vecinity of the EU.

According to a press release of the Presidential Administration, the Council will mark a new stage in the development of the economic governance in the EU as the first European quarter of communitarian coordination of the budgetary – fiscal policies ends.

The Council is about to decide on a set of measures to develop a European police for immigration, control of EU’s borders and a common European system for asylum.

UPDATE The chief of state talked about leaving for Brussels about an agreement for consolidating Schengen that changes entrance requirements. He said that he will not have Romania be imposed new requirements.
