Romanian Transportation minister Ludovic Orban said on Monday that construction works will begin by 2008 at a new tube line linking Universitate Square in downtown Bucharest with the Drumul Taberei area in the south-west of the Romanian capital, which lacks connections to the city's subway network.

Other subway lines are scheduled to be constructed starting with 2009.

The total costs of the two projects will amount to 1.5 billion euro. The money are directed from the European Investment Bank, Romanian news agency NewsIn informs.

The new Universitate - Drumul Taberei tube line will have nine km with some 13 stop stations. The line will cover important and usually crowded places.

The other subway line, Universitate-Pantelimon will link the center of the capital city with its Eastern part.
