Romanian former Justice minister Monica Macovei said during a talkshow on Romanian news channel Realitatea TV on Wednesday night that a government ordinance ruling the dissolution of the National Anti-corruption Department had been signed but never published. The news comes weeks after information about such an ordinance was leaked to the media, only to be dismissed by the Government.

Macovei, who was removed from office in a political government reshuffle this spring, also said that the Constitution should not ask for the President’s approval when investigating high corrupt officials.

And she attacked her successor, current Justice minister Tudor Chiuariu, saying that his agenda was to stop the investigations of corruption involving top state officials.
